These 3 graphs (plotted using Google-Books Ngram) map-out the changing preferences for commons, markets and governments in the scholarly community (or, in the community of book writers).
1880 is an inflexion point (Graph-1). Interest in markets overtook interest in commons around this time. However, interest in markets appear to be falling in recent years (Graph-1). In contrast, interest in commons appears to be increasing (surprisingly) in recent years (Graph-2). However, interest in government outweighs interest in markets or interest in commons, by a large margin (Graph-3). Nonetheless, interest in governments too appears to be declining in recent years.
Interest in social-ecological systems is still negligible.
